In the Polish city of Czestochowa, nestled along the Warta River, millions of pilgrims are drawn each year to view the famed Black Madonna painting. It is also home to PierozeQ, a little shop known for making wonderful pierogies. Opened in 1999, the recipes for the pierogies have been passed down for generations and remain a closely guarded secret. Now the two chefs who create the pierogies, Marzena Gęsiarz and Zofia Kuśmierskaare, are bringing their expertise to Brooklyn, guiding the owners of a new pierogi shop in Greenpoint called Pierozek (592 Manhattan Ave). Seven different types are being offered including the Ruskie filled with potato and cheese, sauerkraut & mushroom, meat (pork shoulder), and spinach with garlic. There are also sweet pierogis in flavors like blueberry, strawberry and cheese. Borscht, croquettes and a selection of beers can also be found.
