Summary:

Stephen Starr, the force behind Le Coucou, Pastis, and Upland, has opened Verōnika, the restaurant inside the new international photography museum Fotografiska in Gramercy. The restaurant, designed by Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors, is located on the second floor of the museum at 281 Park Avenue South. The landmark space also features an area for private events, café, and adjoining chapel bar. Executive Chef Robert Aikens, formerly of The Rainbow Room and Starr's The Dandelion in Philadelphia, pay's homage to early 20th Century France (Consommé Nana with chicken, quail egg and Parmesan crouton, Soufflé Suissesse with sauce mornay), Vienna’s grand cafés (Veal Schnitzel with crushed potatoes and cucumber salad), and new takes on Eastern European favorites (Potato Pierogies with sour cream and caviar, Lamb Goulash with buttermilk spätzle). Executive Pastry Chef Becca Punch, formerly of Eleven Madison Park, The Modern, is offering an elegantly playful combination of Viennese classics presented tableside on a dessert trolley. The restaurant’s name is a nod to Veronica, the patron saint of photography, displaying the moody qualities of the medium in its earliest forms, as well as the “grand cafés” once found in London, Paris, and Vienna.
