Cititour Review:

Before there was Daisy May's and Blue Smoke, there was Virgil's, one of the few joints in town serving up traditional Texas-style and Memphis barbecue. Located in the heart of Times Square, Virgil's is a favorite among tourists, especially those packing big families, the theater crowd and area workers who pack its buzzing bar. The staff bends over backwards to make everyone feel welcome and won't turn up their nose up if you decide to share a dish. Prices are moderate for Midtown with an order of ribs running under $20. Seasoned with a dry rub, our pork ribs were thick and juicy. You can add on a spicy barbecue sauce or eat them as is. The sides of mashed, with mushroom gravy, and baked beans with chunks of bacon, were good eating, but not if you're watching your carbs. You may want to opt for some collard greens instead. Virgil's also serves up brisket and pulled pork sandwiches ($10.50). Desserts include Sweet Potato and Pecan pie ($5.95). Virgil's is a homey kind of place wth lots of pictures of cows and pigs lining its walls. Some Memphis Blues playing in the background adds the finishing touch.
