Davelle on the Lower East Side is an all-day café, also known as a kissaten in Japan. Here the meal of choice is Oden, a Japanese dish where various items are served in a bowl of dashi broth. It is served in a simple setting with a few tables and bar where you can watch as your meal is being prepared. The Oden can be ordered as small individual plates or as bowls with 5 to 10 pieces. Hot and cold items range from Japanese sausage and fried octopus to avocado, tomato and daikon radish. Washu-Beef Shabu Shabu and Mugifuji-Pork Shabu Shabu are available with broth or in a pork curry. The beef is amazing. Sea urchin rice balls, called Inigiri, and Karaage fried chicken are also available along with Japanese spaghetti made with ketchup. The staff is very polite and welcoming.
