Cititour.com Review
The first time Luis Bravo’s Forever Tango hit Broadway back in 1997, most Americans couldn’t tell the difference between the Argentine Tango and the Watusi. But the popularity of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” has made many of us not only pseudo dance-experts but major fans of ballroom dancing -- making this summer a great time to revive this entertaining show at the Walter Kerr Theater.

Indeed, watching this corps of 16 amazingly athletic dancers strut their stuff in sequence after sequence -- not to mention listening to famed singer Gilbert Santo Rosa (crooning beautifully in Spanish) and a crackerjack orchestra -- make the two-plus hours go by just as quickly than an episode of the hit TV series. (Of course, it’s not quite the same without those three arguing judges!)

Moreover, the producers have upped the ante a bit by showcasing two of “Dancing with the Stars” most popular pros, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Unsurprisingly, these fabulous dancers prove to be an electric pair in their two flashy duets, “Comme I’ll Faut” and “Romance entre et Dolor y mi Alma”. The strapping yet graceful Chermerkovsiky (who unlike the rest of the male dancers here favors unbuttoned shirts) and the fierce, flexible, and fiery Smirnoff almost literally burn up the floor with their sensational moves and explosive chemistry. (It might not surprise some that they were formerly engaged offstage). They also join the entire company for the finales of each act, where they both blend in yet stand out.

While Smirnoff and Chemrkovskiy may be the current marquee attraction, audiences will surely appreciate the spectacular talents of the entire cast, including the sizzling duo of Victoria Golato and Juan Pando Horvath who open the show, supersexy Soledad Boss and Cesar Peral, and comic crowd-pleasers Nathalia Turelli and Ariel Manzanares, who provide a needed dash of humor to the otherwise serious, sensual proceedings.
