Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2013
Nov 28, 2013
to 12:00pm Official Site
THE 87th ANNIVERSARY MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE RETURNS TO KICK-OFF THE HOLIDAYS WITH ITS GIANT HELIUM BALLOONS, FLOATS OF FANCY, MARCHING BANDS, CELEBRITIES, PERFORMANCE GROUPS AND THE ONE-AND-ONLY SANTA CLAUS
From giant characters helium balloons including Paul Frank’s iconic monkey Julius and Sonic the Hedgehog, to out-of–this world floats including ZHU-NIVERSE! and Frozen Fall Fun, the magic begins at the sound of Let’s Have A Parade! This iconic phrase has catapulted gaggles of clowns, exciting performance groups, pulse-pounding marching bands, celebrities and the one-and-only Santa Claus down the streets of Manhattan for 87 years of unrivaled wonder.
- A new Snoopy balloon with his pal Woodstock made an appearance, marking the seventh version since the parade began.
- Toothless, the star of Dreamworks' "How to Train Your Dragon" joined the incredible lineup of giant helium-filled balloons.
- SeaWorld’s “A Sea of Surprises” float made its debut.
- The Minions of "Despicable Me 2" could be found aboard a 33-foot long bake shop-themed float featuring 3-1/2 foot tall cupcakes.
- A 47-foot hot air balloon honoring the 75th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz darned the parade route along with Dorothy and other characters from the classic film.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will step-off at 77th Street and Central Park West. The procession will travel down to Columbus Circle, turn onto Central Park South and march down a new path via 6th Avenue/Avenue of the Americas to 34th Street. At 34th Street, the Parade will make its final turn west and end at 7th Avenue in front of Macy’s Herald Square. This incredible cavalcade will make its way down 6th Avenue, a broader, more accessible path that marks only the seventh time the Parade has changed its route.
The parade will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and end at noon. A Holiday Treat for Children Everywhere, the motto of the Macy’s parade has stood for 86 years and will continue to usher in the season of joy for years to come.

As a girl of eighteen years old, I've never, ever watched the entire parade start to finish. I live on my own now with my boyfriend and this year, I've taken a vow and I WILL wake up super early and tune it just to watch the entire thing. The marching band and performers will and have always been my favorite.

I have never seen the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. Not even on TV. I have read many articles and seen many pictures. I live in the small town of Kaufman Texas and I wish to some day travel to New York to visit and to witness the parade for my own eyes.

We can't wait to come into the city to see my 8 year old son on one of the floats this year! We will all be cheering him on from the sidelines! Good luck, buddy, we are so proud of you!

If it has not been set 100%. I would highly and strongly suggest that you see if you can get Katie Herzig to perform "Little Bit Of Love" She's not a huge artist, but the song has enough of a holiday lean to it that it could become a classic and all thanks to Macy's!!! Song is currently used in a Fab.com commercial, but the song is much bigger than that and deserves the biggest stage there is, NYC, Macy's, & the Thanksgiving Day Parade. What more could you ask? This is a can't miss. Promise.

I have been a big fan of the Nintendo franchises and I've always wanted to see Mario or Luigi appear in the Macy's Thanksgiving parade since then. This year, Luigi will be more likely to appear in the parade, as 2013 is also known by Nintendo fans as the Year of Luigi. But who will appear? Will it be Mario, Luigi, both, or neither. Pikachu and Sonic appeared in the parades, so Mario and Luigi deserve a chance.

I have watched the parade annually for years and a few years ago my Mom (82) espressed interest in being able to see it live. Are there certain parade spots that are more condusive to the elderly? Can you recommend a hotel that is reasonabble and in close proximity or any tips that would help me make this trip an enjoyable and memorable one for her.

We mainly do local events but recently we have presented the colors at a professional NASL soccer game for the Tampa Bay Rowdies. But our main goal is to do a color guard at your parade. Hi, I've been to NYC a few times and have mainly stayed at the Pod Hotel on 51st Street which is great value. Some rooms have shared bathrooms but I have never had a problem with availability and its a clean, compact place to stay in a great location. They have opened a new hotel on 31st which I've not stayed at. I'm timing my trip this year to coincide with seeing the parade and Christmas tree at Rockerfeller Centre. Check out their website on www.thepodhotel.com Enjoy the parade,

I look forward to watching the parade every year. This year, my 40th birthday is on Thanksgiving, so I'm determined to take my daughter to NYC to see it in person. Like Sheila, I'm on a budget, I'm a single mom with an average job. I'd like any tips on descent hotels that aren't outrageous. It doesn't have to be on the route, but a reasonable walk away and where will some good spots be and how soon do we need to get ourselves planted?

I am trying my best to plan a trip for our family of 8 to the parade and when I have checked with AAA and another travel agent I was so MADat how much more the hotels raise their prices !!!!! I am just an average working mom trying to share a new American tradition with my family and the hotel owners make it practically impossibe !! Can't someone in New York talk to these owners and see if they could make a fair profit without sticking it to us !!!!

My 50th B-day will be Nov. 29 and my family will be coming to NYC and will be attending the parade. We made this trip 10 years ago on my 40th B-day with our 3 children, but now our family has grown and we have grand children that we are bringing to see the parade. My son has been in a custody battle all year and was awarded full custody of his beautiful daughter and he is wanting to propose to his girlfriend while we are there. Is there any way to incorporate a public proposal with the parade
