The Darby Downstairs
|
Neighborhood: West Village Type of Place: Lounges Night Clubs Description: The first time I stepped into the Darby downstairs , I imagined that I was experiencing the epitome of cool. The guys behind such hotspots as 1Oak (now expanded to Las Vegas) and Butter have done it again, emulating their effortless ‘chill’ vibe, this time lounge-style. The room located beneath the Darby restaurant, offers low, honeycombed walls and mirrored ceilings. Large, cushioned booths are perfect for groups to share a bottle. And getting through the door isn’t too difficult either, especially if you enjoy a dinner upstairs in the restaurant first. The music here is also surprisingly refreshing; a cool hip-hop mash-up, with a few house mixes thrown in. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but it’s to be expected given the crowd that hangs here. It’s not often you get to rub elbows with the likes of Jay-Z, who frequents the spot. It’s also a great place to just relax and unwind. - Rachel Sult
