Cititour Review:

Benny’s Burritos at the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Jane Street in the West Village is a great spot to enjoy breakfast or brunch on the weekends.  Nothing fancy here, just a low key neighborhood hang with a hodgepodge of tables and chairs, old floors, and eclectic paintings on the walls.

First out is a basket of chips and salsa typical of any Mexican restaurant.  The salsa is made on site and the chipotle peppers give it an excellent flavor.  The chips aren’t made here, but they’re good and coated with a generous amount of salt.  I ordered Huevos Verdes, a corn tortilla topped with black beans, grilled chicken, 2 fried eggs, Monterey jack cheese, and tomatillo sauce.  Homes fries and greens come on the side along with Oren’s special blend coffee for $8.95.  Not a bad deal, but an even better deal for $2.00 more includes the house specialty drink called an Orange Flower.  It’s 50% margarita, 50% mimosa and 100% kick ass.  They don’t skimp on the tequila here either so it’s a good thing they give a humongous portion of food.  I certainly needed the carbs.

Overall I was satisfied with the meal, it was Saturday morning and I was hungry for a decent breakfast.  But I would have to say there were some flaws.  I was looking forward to the yolks from the two fried eggs spilling over onto the tortilla once I cut into them.  Unfortunately, the eggs were more scrambled then fried.  The home fries were tasty, crunchy on the ends just the way I like them with a good amount heat, but I was disappointed they didn’t serve ketchup.  I mean, come on, home fries without ketchup?  That’s just sacrilegious to me.  The coffee was strong and flavorful, but they only served it with milk.  No cream here.

Other items on the menu include Picadillo and Eggs, Green Eggs and Chicken, Granola Pancakes, and a Breakfast Taco Trio.  If you can’t make breakfast, stop by for lunch or dinner.  I hear the burritos are appetizing along with lip-smacking mango, peach, guava, papaya, and watermelon frozen margaritas.
