Cuisine: Pizza , Italian

Chef: Michael White

Summary:
Star Chef Michael White's Nicoletta has opened in the East Village and already the lines are forming. Known for trendy, high-end spots like Marea and Ai Fiori, White has now turned to pizza with a spot named after his daughter, Nicole. And if early reviews are right, Nicolleta is looking like a true winner.

Start with some small bites of marinated eggplant, peppers, pine nuts and olives ($5) or peperoni fritti made with fried padron peppers ($4). The antipasti course includes dishes like Polpette, Neapolitan meatballs cooked in a brick oven ($10) and stuffed calamari with soppressata and zucchini ripieno, oreganata and bread crumbs ($12). But the real star of the show is the pizza. There are ten varieties to choose from that you won't find anywhere else, like the Fior Di Zucca topped with zucchini flowers, bufala nozzarella and grated yellow squash ($17), the Tartufata with roasted wild mushrooms and prosciutto cotto ($20), and the Porcetta for the true pork lover. It's topped with slices osteria morini porchetta, crushed tomatoes, wild arugula and rosemary salted pork cracklings ($21). You can also add your own toppings to a classic tomato, mozzarella and basil pie. Manga!
