There's nothing like a pie to put a smile on your face.  Enter - Pie Face.  This small Australian import on the corner of 53rd Street and Broadway is selling an assortment of pies, both sweet and savory.

A face on top denotes the flavor of each pie.  On the savory side; a smiling pie equals chicken, a somewhat grumpy look translates into steak, while an open-mouthed ooohhh expression signals special.   On the sweet side; a smile suggests a cheer for cherry, while a lick to the side of the lip means you will be eating blueberry.   If the face is licking its center upper lip expect some warm apple pie.   No two faces are the same, maybe because we're not alike.

I brought three of the pies home to sample. The mince pie is chock full of ground beef in a tomatoey sauce.  It kind of reminded me of a sloppy Joe inside a delicate crust and is a little sloppy to eat.   A second pie had nice big chunks of tender steak.  Think flavorful beef stew.  It was my favorite.  The chicken and mushroom was my least favorite, although it was still quite tasty.  In fact, all three pies were gobbled up just moments after landing on the kitchen table.  No, I didn't eat three.  I could have, but my wife and son helped out quite a bit.  We had ordered the large pies which sell for $5.95 apiece ($2.95 if you want their smaller brethren).

If you're looking to break the bank and expand your waistline, you can also have your pie stacked with mashed potatoes, peas and gravy for $7.95.   I'll be heading back for that one.  The shop is also selling sausage and chicken rolls, along with sandwiches, wraps and soups (moroccan, chicken & cous cous, and lentil). 

If you are in need of something sweet, you will find danish, croissant, cookies and scones alongside mini pies in flavors like chocolate, lemon, apple crumb and pumpkin.  So, put on your happy face and head over to Pie Face.  Be happy!
