Cititour Review:
It looks like Ruby's survived Coney Island renaissance and boy are we glad. The restaurant which opens onto the boardwalk is serving up traditional seafood fare and has a hopping bar that sells, among other things, Mermaid Pilsner. While the front has been spruced up with new signage, the inside still retains its Coney Island grit with lots of pictures, sharing tables and big old fans keeping the space cool during the hot summer months.
Ruby's is serving up seashore favs like hot dogs and hamburgers, fried chicken and seafood. Jumbo shrimps have a nice crisp breading, while the fried clams offer a nice crunch. There are also clams on the half shell and crab cakes. Just don't expect gourmet fare. Instead, look for a lot of deep-fried options, incuding traditional funnel cakes for dessert. There's also corn on the cob, soft-serve ice cream and cotton candy.
Ruby's has been operating in the same location since 1975 when it bought the Hebrew National Deli and named it Rub's Bar and Grill. Today this family-owned business is part of Coney Island's history.
