Umi Sushi hits the mark on all of the major qualifications for a great restaurant. Not only is much of their fresh fish caught locally, but their prices are low. So low that you can enjoy their lunch special of 3 rolls for $11. The sushi is good, too.
They have all of the usual suspects yet many of my favorites are unique combinations. The tuna and banana tempura roll is as delicious and sweet as it is unexpected. This roll alone should be the reason you walk into this box-like restaurant. But don’t be fooled by its exterior. From the window all you can see is a tiny room with a sushi counter peeking out of the corner, yet once inside, the restaurant is quite spacious, giving off an intimate vibe.

The service at Umi Sushi is not to be ignored. The wait staff is attentive, and if there is anything you crave not found on the menu, just ask. They have a lot to offer if you know what you are looking for.
Delicious, authentic, and cheap; it’s rare to find such a healthy combination such as this in NYC, yet Umi Sushi serves it up perfectly and with a generous smile. Umi is a special place offering a special experience.
