Cititour Review:

This cafe is not for light eaters—or those on a diet—but the food is packed with flavor and they’ve got the best arepas I’ve had north of South America.  I highly recommend their all-inclusive ‘Colombrunch’ ($14.50; available weekends from 9-4.)  They pile up an array of hearty ingredients on their ‘Arepas Montadas,’ which go very well with a hot cup of Columbian espresso, or you can chose an exotic drink (up to three refills) from a menu that includes the Columbian ‘Refajo’ (a popular Colombian cocktail made with beer and Colombiana, a Columbian soda), Passion fruit sangria, or a freshly-squeezed juice of the day.  The full exotic drink brunch is just $12.50 if you make it before 11am.

The servers are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home in their dining area, which feels like a warm, sun-drenched South American café.  The aroma of their freshly ground Columbian espresso is a real treat for any coffee lover, and you can buy beans by the pound to enjoy at home.  This is the only place I’ve found Dulce de Leche flavored beans ($12.95/lb).  Of the ‘Famous Columbian Selections,’ try the delicious Café con Arequipe or the Agua de Panela.

In 2010 they updated their full dinner menu, with a selection of South American wines to pair with your traditional main course ($12.95).  Of these, the must-try is the ‘Bandeja Paisa,’ a beef dish with chicharrón, chorizo, egg, perfumed rice, plantain-infused beans, arepa, fried sweet plantains and avocado.  For a lighter dinner, try a selection from the ‘Warm ‘n Toasty Sandwiches’ (made with Balthazar breads), which are more like ‘tapas,’ for only $5.50.  No matter what you try, you’ll be sure to return to this flavorful north Greenpoint café.
