Cititour Review:

New York has no shortage of French bistro-esque restaurants, but few have the Parisian charm of Pascalou, down to the well-priced wine, shortage of elbow space and outdoor terrace, weather providing. In the high-class, residential Carnegie Hill, it's also one of the only restaurants that won't break the bank.

The goat cheese phyllo tart (10.50) is melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the prosciutto and blueberries with goat cheese brie (11.95) is an unusual dish that's perfect for cheese lovers looking to try something a little bit different. Mains are good-sized and varied, such as duck confit (22.95) with sinfully crispy skin and potatoes for mopping up all the sauce, grilled rib-eye au poivre (25.95) and a variety of specials including a catch of the day.

Where true Parisian restaurants fall short—vegetarian entrées—Pascalou manages to shine: no carb vegetable fettuccine (18.45) is a creative, healthy choice, and many of the soups and salads are veggie-friendly. For those in your party who aren't that into French food, there are also a variety of Thai and Asian-inspired dishes, though they pale in comparison to the house specialties.

There are a variety of wines—both French and international—available. There are several half-bottles as well. Be sure to make a reservation, especially if you want to enjoy the people-watching along Madison Avenue, away from the slightly cramped dining room.
