Cititour Review:

Some things never change. Thank goodness.  And that goes for Peter Luger’s in Williamsburg which continues to thrive in a neighborhood now known for its trendiness.

Entering you get the feel you’ve gone back in time. Established in 1887, Peter Luger’s has the feel of a Bavarian beer hall. Immediately you are thrust into a boisterous bar with large groups waiting for tables armed with three-olive martinis and mugs of beer.  The host who took our name somehow managing to remain organized despite the chaos.

Choosing what to eat is the next challenge, mainly because you'll want to try a little of everything. whatever you do, do not pass up on the bacon. Served in long slabs, it’s sliced into pieces and slathered with Peter Luger sauce. It’s tangy, meaty and salty all in one magnificent bite. Jumbo shrimp live up their name. They come six to a plate and are huge. Dunk them into cocktail sauce spiked with horseradish with a splash of lemon. It really doesn't get much better. Which brings us to the steak.

You can order a single or a steak for the entire table. A Porterhouse for three will run you about $150. It arrives on a sizzling plate and is plated by your server.  It arrived medium rare as ordered with a nice char. You'll want to fight for the filet mignon.  It went well with a side of German potatoes and a large pile of onion rings.

Save room for dessert. The apple strudel is delicious piled high with homemade whipped cream, called Schlag.  My son devoured the "Holy Cow" hot fudge sundae topped with walnuts. Overall, Peter Luger still delivers a very memorable meal. See more
