Cititour Review:

There are two things I look for when staking out authentic Chinese food.  One is the duck; the other is the roast pig.  You will usually find both hanging in the shop's window along with whole chickens and barbecued ribs.  Sun Wong in Sunset Park delivers on both counts.  While the restaurant is on the smallish side, with just a few large tables for sharing, the design is cheery and the staff is polite and friendly.

Now, back to that roast pig.  It can be purchased by the pound or served on rice.  The excitement begins as the meat is chopped right in front of you. It is sliced thick and is truly succulent, while the nicely-salted skin offers the perfect crunch.  And if you think the pig is good, the duck is even better.  The meat is juicy and flavorful with hints of star anise and cloves in its crisp skin.  Both dishes are served at room temperature with the juices drizzled over the rice.  At $4.50 for a full plate, you cannot find a better deal.

The rest of the menu ranges from traditional Chinese takeout fare like Pork Lo Mein ($6.50) and General Tso's Chicken ($5 over rice) to more exotic fare like Leek Flower with Frog ($16.95) and Braised Pig Feet with Lotus Root ($11.95).  Breakfast includes an assortment of steamed rice rolls flavored with things like pork, beef and basil, to congee, a hearty porridge, that can be eaten plain or mixed with a number of different items, including pork with thousand year egg.

With more than 300 dishes on the menu, there is no shortage of things to try at Sun Wong.
