Cititour Review:
Wined Up is a wine bar in the Flatiron section, not too far from Union Square, that is a great for a glass of wine and a bite, or perhaps a bottle. It's located directly atop another crowd-pleaser, called Punch. Just follow the neon "wine" sign up a bright red stairwell to the bar-lounge with a full bar and candlelit tables. The centerpiece is a floating wine wall boasting more than 3,000 bottles.
The menu features an eclectic mix of tapas, or small plates, ranging from crab and avocado rolls to bluefish tacos with jalapeno slaw. They also offer pastas and pizzettas. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a tangy chipotle barbecue sauce served on a seeded bun with crispy pickles and a huge side of sweet potato fries. It's good, but you may need to eat it with a fork and knife. An oversized burger my friend picked arrived smothered in cheddar cheese with a thick slice of red onion, lettuce and tomato. It came with a healthy helping of regular fries.
The restaurant also serves lobster mac 'n cheese, a cast iron cooked hanger steak and a beer-battered fish sandwich. Or, if you are just looking to nibble, there's a nice assortment of cheeses and cured meats to choose from. As you might expect, the wine list is extensive wine glasses in the $11-&16 range and bottles moderately priced starting at around $40 dollars.
Wined Up is a good spot to wind down with friends or maybe for a late night romantic meal.
