UP YOUR AILEY
Dance lovers in New York are particularly lucky, since the spectacular Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre now makes two visits to the Big Apple each year. For their five-day run at Lincoln Center’s David W. Koch Theatre, this tremendously talented troupe of terpsichoreans will perform a mix of world premieres (“Untitled America”), company premieres (“Ella,” “Mass”) and long-time favorites (“Revelations,” “The Winter in Lisbon.”), all of which are sure to have you jumping for joy.

MUSIC IN THE AIR
As beautiful as Central Park is on any day, many Manhattanites seem to need a special occasion to take advantage of this metropolitan paradise. Well, here’s your chance, as the New York Philharmonic takes to the Park’s gorgeous Great Lawn for its annual free concert -- the program this year features music by Dvorak, Bernstein and Gershwin -- followed by a memorable fireworks display that will light up both the sky and your heart! And if you can’t make it into Manhattan, the Philharmonic will be touring various borough parks all week long!

LOVE IN BLOOMSDAY
We’d be the first to admit that James Joyce’s seminal novel “Ulysses” is a bit headier than your usual summer reading. But what about just hearing it? “Bloomsday,” Symphony Space’s 36th annual celebration of this timeless tome, features readings from this offensive, subversive, obscene, political, sexual and heretical book, hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon and featuring such top-notch performers as Malachy McCourt, Sam Underwood, Harris Yulin, and Charlotte Moore. Yes. Yes. Yes!
(Friday, June 16. 7pm. Visit www.symphonyspace.org)

ISLAND GIRLS
One of the summer’s most anticipated events, the annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island showcases over 3,000 creative individuals from all over the five boroughs and beyond, many dressed in outlandish costumes and showing off their many artistic talents. And this year, the boardwalk might even be more full of spectators than usual as visitors hope to catch a glimpse of this year’s “royalty,” Blondie co-founders Debbie Harry and Chris Stein. Rapture, indeed!

ROLL WITH IT
Not sure whether to take Dad out for Chinese food or Latin food for his special? Well, he (and you) can have it all at the “Egg Rolls, Egg Creams and Empanadas Festival” at the Museum at Eldridge Street on the Lower East Side. This mash-up of Jewish, Chinese and Puerto Rican tastes, traditions, sights and sounds includes everything from delicious food to performances of Chinese opera and klezmer music, Challah-braiding demonstrations, mask making and so much more.
(Sunday, June 18. 12pm-4pm. Visit www.eldridgestreet.org)
