There's something for everyone at South Street Seaport, from shopping to history, to good eating! The seaport is a recreated 19th century fishing port, located at the bottom tip of lower Manhattan, between the Financial District and the East River. It's a tourist-friendly mix of historical old New York and modern-day entertainment, all in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge. It's intended to transport visitors back in time to New York in the mid-1800's, while also offering one of the only "mall" experiences in Manhattan.
Pier 17 offers many shops and restaurants, as well as a maritime museum, and further down Fulton Street is a path of preserved cobblestone street, leading to bars, shops, and restaurant. The outdoor decks are always buzzing with people enjoying the views of Brooklyn and the historic sailing vessels docked at the Seaport. Until recently, the Seaport was also home to the Fulton Fish Market, which was a fully functioning, wholesale open-air fish market, the destination of fishing boats from all across the Atlantic Ocean. In 2005, the Market moved from its original location to a moden facility in the Bronx.
If you're hoping to do some shopping, the mall at Pier 17 is full of your favorite shopping destinations, including Bath and Body Works, Abercrombie & Fitch, Godiva Choclatier, Express, and more, as well as kiosks and shops selling New York-centric merchandise.
