October 31, 2024, 12:39.41 am ET
Discover Japanese artist YAMAN NKYMN's debut exhibition, "(Atomi:) WHITE2BLACK ∈ division," at The Mercer Hotel in New York City from November 7-9. This one-of-a-kind showcase explores how information changes over centuries, pairing the traditional Japanese tea ceremony with Anime—two art forms separated by 450 years but connected by their distinct styles. Visitors can experience a guided tea ceremony led by YAMAN and Reijiro Izumi, a 16th-generation descendant of famed tea master Sen-no-Rikyu, and enjoy sushi by Tokyo chef Endo. Featured displays include rare items such as a $500,000 Do-nyu Raku tea bowl, two Black Oribe bowls, and YAMAN's interpretation of Hideyoshi Toyotomi's Golden Tea House. Presented by Sabie and Chowa, with support from Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, this exhibition offers a fresh perspective on Japanese art, culture, and philosophy.

The Whitney Museum of American Art has just launched A Realistic Day In My Life Living In New York City, a cool digital art project by Maya Man in their online gallery, artport. This piece is part of the On the Hour series, which features new net art projects every hour on the hour. Maya takes inspiration from popular "day in my life" TikTok videos, using text excerpts from tons of public posts to explore how we represent ourselves online. Each hour, you'll see these excerpts pop up in big pink font on the Whitney’s website, along with animated comments from viewers. It’s a fun way to think about the balance between authenticity and performance in social media.
