ACRU, the highly anticipated restaurant Chef Daniel Garwood, formerly of two Michelin-starred Atomix, has arrioved in Greenwich Village at 79 Macdougal Street. Garwood is known for his innovative culinary approach, drawing inspiration from his Australian roots.

Menu highlights include Scalloped Potatoes served tempura style covered with thinly-sliced scallops topped with caviar; Lamb served with grilled lettuce and “Seamite,” a take on Vegemite made with seaweed; and a savory Tomato course inspired by Korean bingsu made with layers of tuna, smoked trout roe, and anise hyossop granita that is topped with warm grilled tomatoes.

Entrees include Montauk Sea Robin grilled whole, with toasted yeast; Sausage Roll, Australia’s take on pigs in a blanket, with housemade milk bread and sea buckthorn sauce; and Aged Ribeye finished with a sauce of smoked and rendered blue cheese fat, seaweed powder and lovage oil.

Desserts are equally adventurous like Golden Hay Time, a riff on Australia’s Golden Gaytime ice cream bars made with toasted hay and grilled pretzel ice cream; and Fig Leaf Lamingtons, with a fig leaf sponge cake and grilled berry jam.

The beverage program, overseen by General Manager and Wine Director Ambrose Chiang (formerly of Momofuku Ko), focuses on French wines, New York-based spirits, and seasonal cocktails like the Grilled Lemon Bee’s Knees. Vintage liquors, meanwhile, are presented tableside via trolley. Smaller bar bites, like a Potato Cake topped with uni, reinterprets flavors from the tasting menu, while ensuring minimal food waste.

The 47-seat space – designed by Joseph Calabrese - embraces the rich tapestry of Greenwich Village, blending rustic charm with contemporary flair.
