It's fitting that Patti Smith offered the last rites or should we say final performance at this New York City legend. CBGB & OMFUG (which stands for Country, Bluegrass and Blues and Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers) was the place where punk began. The place where The Ramones got its start, along with Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop. And where countless others left their mark, mostly on the bathroom wall. And it's not just CBGB, soaring rents are forcing other clubs to shut down or leave the city. Some are migrating to places like Williamsburg, and in the case of CBGB all the way to Vegas. (The original CBGB -- December 1973-October 2006)
