This Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead, Mijo at Market 57 is honoring Mexican tradition with an array of special treats from rich tamales and warming Mexican hot chocolate to beautifully crafted Pan de Muerto. Fany Gerson and her husband, Daniel Ortiz de Montellano, co-founders of Mijo and Mexico City natives, have filled their menu with festive offerings that embody the spirit of the holiday and their deep roots in Mexican culture.

At the heart of their seasonal menu is the Pan de Muerto, available in unique variations that tell their own story. The Pan de Muerto Tradicional is a customer favorite, featuring a soft, buttery bread with hints of orange zest and orange blossom. Inside, dark Mexican chocolate brings richness, while a sugar and cinnamon blend on top adds just the right touch of sweetness.

For a special twist inspired by Oaxaca, the Sesame Seed Muñequitas are shaped playfully and flavored with anise seeds, Mexican cinnamon, and sesame, capturing a warm and earthy aroma. Mijo’s Hand-Decorated Oaxacan Style Ceremonial Pan de Muerto (top) is a true work of art, each loaf uniquely adorned by hand with vibrant designs that celebrate Mexican artistry.

Beyond these breads, Mijo’s kitchen is filled with the comforting aroma of barbacoa and freshly steamed tamales, offering flavors that each grew up with. And no Dia de los Muertos celebration would be complete without Mijo’s signature Mexican hot chocolate—perfect for warming up and savoring the spirit of the season.

Every dish at Mijo is crafted with love, inspired by the couple's family heritage and their young son Gael, affectionately nicknamed Chiltepín. Their vision for Mijo is rooted in sharing the foods that bring them joy, now prepared for New Yorkers to savor and celebrate. Pre-orders available for pickup here
