Port Sa’id in Hudson Square is drawing quite crowd. On a recent Friday night, the sprawling 4,000 square foot restaurant on sunny corner at 350 Hudson Street was booked solid.
The restaurant from acclaimed chef Eyal Shani (Miznon, HaSalon, and Shmoné) arrives via Tel Aviv with masterful Israeli bites. To start, look for things like Roasted Green Chickpea Pods scented with lemon and olive oil, Charred Beetroot Carpaccio with horse radish snow and crème fraiche, and Juicy Lamb Kebobs with a “faint memory of the alleys of Jerusalem.”
The menu also brings bread, bruschetta and sandwiches like hand-grated egg salad, a roast-beef sandwich described as “definitely not your regular deli sandwich,” and a “blanket of Shushka peppers delicately covering homemade ricotta.”
The other thing Port Sa’id is known for is music and cocktails. All of the vinyl music is curated by Los Angeles’ sound collective, In Sheep’s Clothing. If you can’t snag a table or a seat at the main bar, ask to be taken to a hidden bar in the rear of the restaurant where only cocktails are served. It’s located behind closed doors with about a dozen seats at the bar along with bleacher-style seating.
