Chef Reuben Rodriguez promised a love letter to Mexico when he opened his new spot, Bad Hombre, in the East Village. Now we are getting a clearer picture of just what he had in mind.

Oysters swimming in a Fresno pepper mignonette starts things off, along with Tuna Crudo in a yuzu-mandarin consommé, and pan-seared octopus with Pico de Gallo. Even the guacamole is elevated with aromatic herbs.

There are quesadillas filled with wild mushrooms and shrimp tacos offered on nixtamal tortillas. Tostadas are topped with spicy squash, Thai chili and pumpkin seed. Chicken skewers arrive smothered in adobe and garnished with charred kale, while a traditional skirt steak is livened up with chimichurri and wild arugula.

The space, inspired by life in Mexico City, is filled with vibrant patterns, earth tones and greenery. The centerpiece is a stunning marble bar where guests can share a cocktail.

Drinks include the Cosmo La Flor with lalo tequila, juarez triple sec, cocchi rosa, and lime juice; and Rosa y Rosado made with rose-infused mezcal, damiana liqueur, rose vanilla water, strawberry jam, and lime juice with an alaea rose salt rim.

Bad Hombre is located at 29 Second Avenue at East 2nd Street, New York, NY. For more information and reservations, visit badhombrenyc.com
