Cocktail Destination Gair Arrives in DUMBO

Gair, a new upscale bar, is located on one of the world’s most famous intersections on Washington Street and Water Street in DUMBO. Conceptualized and owned by architectural designer and Dumbo local Kevin Cimini, Gair was designed to fulfill Dumbo’s need for an upscale, community-centric bar while also paying homage to the site’s industrial past with its unique use of concrete and natural, raw materials.

A large, horseshoe-shaped bar sits at the center of the space; the fluted concrete structure was cast in place, a process that took 12 weeks. The Brazilian basalt bartop and a white oak back bar sit underneath a sculpted plaster “cloud” that mirrors the bar below. Other exposed raw materials used throughout the space, including cast ceramic, natural leather, blackened steel, handmade Moroccan tiles and tadelakt, are designed to complement this industrial yet design-driven neighborhood.

Gair’s beverage program also complements the ambiance of Gair – playful and elevated. Showcasing lesser-known spirits, locally-produced beers, and natural, organic wines from unusual wine-producing regions, Gair invites guests to explore unique, unexpected flavors from around the world at its community hub. The food program, led by Gabe McMackin, formerly the executive chef at Troutbeck in the Hudson Valley and the Finch in Brooklyn, features traditional bar snacks, a bread and charcuterie program as well as seasonal proteins and vegetables, all elevated through ingredients and techniques with a sense of fun.

During the warm months, visitors can expect outdoor seating immediately in front of the bar, where a block-long stretch of Washington Street is going to be permanently closed off to traffic starting this summer. It is a perfect location to take in the sights and enjoy a few alfresco cocktails, and the people-watching which is a year-round affair.
