The Lab, a 40-seat space accessible through an archway at the back of Nomad speakeasy Patent Pending, opens on Wednesday, October 7th. The Lab will be open for private events as well as standard seating, allowing additional space for Patent Pending’s regulars and those in-the-know to imbibe.

As a result of COVID-19, founder Ryan McKenzie expanded the once solely subterranean space and is now serving Patent Pending’s signature cocktails both indoors and at an outdoor patio with 26 seats. Beginning in early October, Patent Pending will install five weather-proof canvas huts, featuring wood benches with cozy seating for six, and the option to BYO Blanket.

Patent Pending, The Lab, and their patio are also offering reservations for a prix fixe menu - to combat the typically long wait times - for the first time ever, providing diners with three cocktails and three bites ($75 outdoor/$90 indoor including gratuity). Walk-ins are also welcome for à la carte drinks and dining.

Patent Pending and The Lab, built by Cocozza Group, utilize the 19th-century basement arches and restored penny tiles from the building’s previous occupant, the Gerlach Hotel, along with custom metalwork, dreamy lighting, expansive marble, and fresh greenery. The Lab features a second bar with bar stools as well as banquet style seating around its perimeter, ideal for private group gatherings of up to 40 (the combined spaces can be rented for groups of up to 100, pending city guidelines).

Fall beverage highlights - served in both Patent Pending and The Lab - include a list of barrel-aged cocktails which add depth and balanced flavor to the bar’s signature offerings. A number of Patent Pending’s most popular cocktails have been aged in oak barrels for up to nine months, including: Odd Love (Rye, Spanish Brandy, Patent Coffee, Cherry, Walnut, Absinthe); Hit by a Taxi (Japanese Whisky, Armagnac, Sweet Vermouth, Pu'erh Tea, Curacao, Star Anise); and Impossible Idea (Chichicapa Mezcal, Navazos Rum, Blackened Banana, Luxardo Maraschino, Oloroso Sherry, Nardini Amaro).

Other seasonal drinks such as Ozone Therapy (Mezcal, Japanese Gin, Chili Pepper, Madeira, Dry Vermouth, Lime) add a bit of tang and spice to the mix.

Patent Pending & The Lab are open from 4pm - Midnight daily. Takeout and delivery are also available via phone (212-869-4002).
