At Dept of Culture in Bedford Stuyvesant diners can get up close to traditional north-central Nigerian cuisine while also getting a sense of community. The IYA EBA dinner series, as it is called, is inspired by Nigerian street food. Each week diners are presented with a different menu.

At the time of this writing, the prix-fix menu featured a collection of dishes, such as Eja tutu ati oshuka cilantro (Red snapper pepper soup), Wara ati obe (Nigerian cheese) Tuwo pelu gbegiri ati eja alaran also known as Okele or swallow food (corn meal, bean purée and smoked fish). For dessert there is Dodo ati ice cream (Caramelized plantain with ice cream).

The dinner, which is hosted by Ayo Balogun of the Council Café, costs $75 per person and is served in an intimate setting for an evening of food and conversation. Reservations required.

Dept of Culture is located at 327 Nostrand Ave, Brooklyn, NY
