Bar Milano is bringing the flavors of Milan to Eataly Flatiron where you can enjoy Northern Italian cuisine while sipping on a Negroni. Hidden near the back of Eataly’s retail market, Bar Milano has the feel of one of Milan’s beloved speakeasies. The modern décor anchored by a rounded marble bar, emerald leather seats and contemporary pieces from emerging Milanese artist Olimpia Zagnoni.

Guests can feast on dishes such as Mondeghili, a Milanese meatball made with braised beef, pork, and just a hint of mortadella, and allo Zafferano, a legendary Milanese rice dish enriched with saffron, bone marrow, and Parmigiano Reggiano DOP aged for 18 months. For risotto lovers, there’s Risotto al Salto, a crispy rice pancake traditionally made from leftover saffron risotto and topped with Taleggio Fonduta.

To eat like a true Milanese, there are two must-haves - L’Ossobuco, an expertly braised veal shank from Sekel Farms served with saffron risotto and gremolata, and Cotoletta alla Milanese, a tender, breaded veal chop served bone-in and accompanied by dressed Italian chicories (top). The dish dates back to 1134, and after one bite you’ll understand its centuries-long appeal. For dessert, there’s Panettone di Bignè alla Nocciola, a cream puff filled with hazelnut Chantilly cream & caramel butter, and Cioccolato, chocolate sponge cake with hazelnut white chocolate crunch.

While Florence may have created the Negroni, it was perfected in Milan as an after-work apertivo. At Bar Milano, the cocktail is celebrated with Campari Tradizionale, a classic Negroni made with Piemonte Campari, Carpano Vermouth, Bulldog Gin and an orange twist. There is also a refreshing Luxardo Negroni Bianco, a white Negroni made with Luxardo Bitter Bianco and a Luxardo Cherry. The Negroni are served from a cocktail cart and mixed tableside. The wine list also gives a nod to Northern Italy with small producers within a 100-mile radius of Milan.

Bar Milano by Eataly is located at 200 5th Ave, New York, NY
