The team behind popular East Village spots Nai and Amigo by Nai, has opened Emilia by Nai, a nod to owner Ruben Rodriguez’s grandmother, who the restaurant is named after, and the flavors of Galicia (an autonomous community in Northwest Spain).

Look for dishes like Oysters with pomelo, granite, dill and extra virgin olive oil; Jerusalem Artichoke Escabeche with a soy cured egg; Squid Ink Bomba Rice with maitake mushrooms and saffron aioli; Shrimp Croquettes with bechamel, lemon mayonnaise and nori powder; and Red Snapper Crudo with cucumbers, serrano pepper, lime and mirin. Desserts like Banana Bread with brown butter, coffee and cacao cream and Coffee Semifreddo round out the menu.

Cocktails feature wine-based spirits from beverage director Niko Haggerty (Seamore’s, The Meatball Shop). They include The Persistence of a Memory with wormwood infused oloroso sherry, pandan, chocolate, coconut bitters and a shot of espresso; and Central Park Carousel with Yuzushu, Moroccan black olive washed vermouth, cava, raspberry, lime, ginger and bitters.

The bright, minimalist restaurant, inspired by the secluded homes in Galicia, houses an open kitchen and counter style seating made up of earth toned Traveryonx stone. The linear, tunnel-like space features a series of secluded cave-like domes with banquette seating, and custom natural wood benches and tables.

Emilia by Nai is located at 174 1st Ave., New York, NY (212) 677-1030
