Restaurateur Gero Fasano has opened his first U.S. restaurant in the space formerly occupied by the Four Seasons.
Fasano, who was born in Brazil from an Italian family, is a fourth generation restaurateur. His New York City restaurant is part of a long-awaited expansion of the Fasano Group, an admired figure in the Sao Palo hospitality industry for more than a century. Today, Fasano Group represents a robust collection of restaurants and hotels throughout Brazil, Uruguay and now the United States.
Diners can expect impeccable service alongside expertly prepared Milanese dishes from Chef Nicola Fedeli. The menu of elevated northern Italian classics includes Ossobuco Alla Menighina con Risotto Alla Milanese (Ossobuco with saffron risotto), Tortelli di Vitello con Fonduta di Parmigiano Reggiano (Veal tortellini with fonduta of 48 month aged Parmigiano Reggiano) and the classic Bollito cart (a traditional northern Italian selection of boiled meats and vegetables accompanied by signature sauces).
Other offerings include La Frittura Croccante di Calamari, Gamberi, Scampi e Zucchine (crispy fried calamari, shrimps, langoustine and zucchini), and Il Filetto di Mazo alla Rossini, Terrina di Patate, Foie Gras e Tartufo Nero (beef fillet Rossini, potato terrine, foie gras, and black truffle. Desserts also stand out like almond and chocolate brittle, chocolate custard with amaretti, and the “Nonna Cake” with English cream and pine nuts.
Fasano’s dinner menu is complemented by a robust wine list curated by wine director, Danio Braga and sommelier, Manoel Beato. Signature cocktails include the Cascade Spritz with Fords Gin, Italicus, spiced pear syrup, lemon and prosecco top, and Oaxaca Viola with Altos tequila, hibiscus agave syrup, Cointreau and lime. Bellini, Caipirinhas and Dry Martinis are also counted among the classic cocktails.
Brazilian interior designer Isay Weinfeld, a longtime friend and collaborator of the Fasano brand, led the restaurant’s design. It includes three sprawling dining spaces: a relaxed osteria, an elegant main dining room, and an intimate private dining room for up to 26 guests.
Visitors will discover neutral tones and natural materials, including many sourced from Brazil, to create an atmosphere that is elegant and sophisticated. A thoughtfully curated selection of photos, objects and antiques are present throughout the space, providing a nod to Fasano’s many properties. A bar and lounge, named Baretto, is set to open on the second floor in spring 2022.
Fasano is located at 280 Park Ave (E 49th St), New York, NY
