Food Network star Guy Fieri is back in Times Square with the arrival of Chicken Guy! At 136 West 42nd Street, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue. But whether is was the rainy weather on opening night or the fact that the restaurant is a bit off the beaten path, fans weren’t exactly flocking to the new space.

Outside workers were trying to lure folks in, while inside an army of workers clearly outnumbered diners. If fact, the space was virtually empty when we arrived at dinner time. The workers, many still in training, were very helpful from taking orders to serving diners at tables.

The space is bright and fun with Guy-isms throughout, like “Welcome to Flavortown,” “The Boss of Sauce,” and “Shut the Front Door.” There’s a giant picture of Fieri holding a chicken as you enter. The main dining room features a chicken mural, keg lights, black and red banquettes, bright yellow chairs and a big screen TV showcasing Fieri’s TV personality.

Six different combos are being offered from the O.G., a sandwich featuring two large crispy chicken cutlets, pickles and special sauce and a large side of fries dusted with Chicken Guy! signature seasoning. Other sandwich options include Bourbon Brown Sugar BBQ, the B.L.A.T, (smoked bacon, lettuce, avocado crema, tomatoes and buttermilk ranch), and Buffalo Mac n Cheese with smoked bacon. Chicken tender combos, salads and chopped cheese and chicken egg rolls are also among the offerings. On the sweet side, there are hand-spun shakes (vanilla, chocolate and strawberry) and soft-serve topped with Oreos or Apple Cinnamon Cereal.

Guys is a welcome addition to Time Square, but could face some intense competition from other serious chicken contenders like Jolibee’s and Raising Cane’s in the area. Let us know how you rate the chicken at Chicken Guy!
