What weighs 42 tons, stands 82 feet tall and 50 feet wide? This year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. The 85 to 90 year old Norway Spruce was donated by the Lebowitz family of Glens Falls, New York. Rockefeller Center says the tree will arrive at Center Plaza on November 12th.
The Christmas tree will then be wrapped with more than 50,000 multi-colored, energy-saving LED lights and topped with a Swarovski star designed by architect Daniel Libeskind covered with 3 million crystals.
The 90th Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Nov 30th from 7pm to 10pm and will be broadcast on NBC. Afterwards, the tree will be milled into lumber for Habitat for Humanity.
