Food Network Star Marc Murphy Returns to New York Food Scene
March 5, 2024, 10:12.54 pm ET
Renowned Chef and Food Network Star Marc Murphy is returning to where it all began. Murphy is opening a new Italian and French inspired restaurant called MARC179 in the same location as his first restaurant, Landmarc, which debuted at 179 West Broadway (between Leonard and Worth St), marking his return to his roots and the restaurant kitchen.
While known across the country for his television work, Chef Murphy started his career cooking in Michelin-starred restaurants, and his iconic first project, Landmarc, was a neighborhood staple in Tribeca and Columbus Circle for more than 15 years. With MARC179, he turns the typical restaurant model on its head, opening to guests for three consecutive days each month, and the remainder of the month will serve as an event space.
The $75 rotating prix fixe pre-fixe four-course menu that will change monthly, alongside a curated wine program that will evolve with it, focusing on half and full bottles that span both old and new world regions at reasonable prices with the ultimate goal to enjoy good food and wine with friends.
Murphy’s menu will fuse fresh, seasonal ingredients with elements drawn from his childhood and as an adult in Italy and his French training. Look for dishes such as Arugula Salad with pan-fried artichoke, and sweet garlic vinaigrette; Cacio e Pepe; Roast Chicken Breast with mushroom, grilled filone (Italian yeast bread), lardon, and chicken jus; and a Chocolate Mousse with bourbon whipped cream for dessert.
Opening in the former Landmarc space, MARC179 maintains some of the original restaurant’s signature details — the bi-level space and iconic 30-seat bar downstairs — but also adds new elements, including an expansive skylight, and revamped design.
