It’s an annual tradition dating back to the early 1900s. The Coney Island Polar Bear club will hold its annual New Year’s Day plunge in the shadow of the iconic Parachute Jump in the frigid waters of Coney Island on Januay 1, 2024. Hundreds of people from New York City and beyond are expected to take the plunge.
The water temperature for the event is expected to be a balmy 46 degrees with the forecast calling for the air to be around 41 degrees with overcast skies and winds at 9 miles per hour.
The plunge will be taking place between 11am and 2pm. And while the event is free, registration and donations are recommended. Registration for the actual plunge is closed.
