La Tomatina, Spain's most famous food fight, takes place in the humble city of Buñol during the last Wednesday of every August. Over 150,000 tomatoes serve as "weapons" in city, but at Mercado Little Spain, tomatoes become the centerpiece of specialty tapas and cocktails to honor the occasion.

Embrace the spirit of La Tomatina at this annual late Summer celebration with the season's most indulgent fruit: the tomato!

On August 31st, Spanish Diner will mark the occasion with special music, and gorgeous tomato-filled dishes like Tomato en Escabeche, Compari tomatoes pickled in a smoky escabeche sauce; Tomate en Salmorejo, Andalusian cold spread made with tomato, olive oil bread and garlic served with heirloom tomatoes, jamon Iberico and bread picos; and Pan con Tomate for dessert made with tomato and vanilla jam, bread ice cream, olive oil and caramelized bread. At Mar, look for Tomates al Natural con Bacalao ahumado Carpier, heirloom tomato salad with cured cod fish made in Catalunya; and Salmorejo con Boquerones, Andalusian cold spread made with tomatoes, olive oil, bread, and garlic with heirloom tomatoes, pickled white anchovies and bread picos. Lena is serving up El Gazpacho y su Liturgia, Spanish tomato, cucumber and pepper soup with vegetables brunoise and crunchy bread croutons; and Tomate a la Brasa con Grasa de Txuleton, grilled tomato brushed with melted dry aged ribeye fat. View Menu

La Barra is serving Ensalada de Tomate with heirloom tomatoes, spring onion and sherry dressing and Vaso de Gazpacho, a glass of iconic gazpacho served with crispy croutons.  View Menu

The Festival runs through September 4th at Mercado Little Spain at Hudson Yards.
