Malai, the South Asian-inspired artisanal ice cream company founded by Pooja Bavishi, now has a second location inside Market 57, the new food hall by the James Beard Foundation at Pier 57.
It marks the first retail expansion for Malai outside of its flagship scoop shop in Cobble Hill. To mark the occasion Malai is also rolling out new flavors like Saffron Soft Serve, a delicate yet robust balance of dairy free soft serve with floral and honey-like notes; and Cardamom Pistachio Crumble, inspired by the spiced Indian shortbread called nankhatai that is often served dunked in chai. The flavor features caramelized crumbs of shortbread folded into rich and creamy cardamom ice cream for a decadent combination of aromatic spices and nutty pistachio. The two flavors are inspired by Bavishi’s childhood as a first generation Indian-American.
Market 57 is now open daily from 11am - 8pm. For more information visit pier57nyc.com/market-57
