Industry veteran Ignacio “Nacho” Jimenez has opened SUPERBUENO, a place for playful cocktails, Mexican street food bites, and a welcoming vibe. Originally from Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, Jimenez developed SUPERBUENO as a way to honor his Mexican heritage seen through the lens of New York City.

Guests will find signature 10 cocktails featuring Mexican ingredients alongside non-alcoholic beverages and a selection of Mexican beers and wines. Cocktails include the Nogada Fizz, a refreshing, ripe and smokey play on Mexico’s iconic chiles en nogada, and the Adobada Bam Bam slush (above), a smoky and salty frozen drink made with pineapple skin infused mezcal, adobada spices, and smoked pineapple. A large format cocktail - Tepache Para 4 - is SUPERBUENO’s take on the fermented tequila drink, shochu, made with fermented cucumber, yuzu, chili and soda.

Mexican street foods include Quesadilla Bombas, deep-fried tortilla with cheese and rajas or chicharron, salsa de serrano, and escabeche; Tostada Campechana with a daily rotation of cured fish, shrimp, leche de tigre, avocado, salsa chalaca, dried shrimp aioli, house hot sauce; Birria Grilled Cheese with braised lamb & beef; and Nacho’s Nachos with mole negro, avocado, carnitas mushroom, poblano, and picked jalapeño.

The 52-seat space echoes the vibrancy of Mexico City with the sophistication of New York. The centerpiece is a striking terrazzo bar top, along with colorful Luchador masks and works by emerging Mexican artists. Joining Jimenez on this venture is Greg Boehm, owner of Cocktail Kingdom Hospitality Group which also operates Katana Kitten, and Mace.

Located at 13 1st Avenue, SUPERBUENO is open daily from 4 p.m. - 2 a.m. For more information, visit superbuenonyc.com
