New York City's Irish pubs enjoy one last pint before being ordered to close ahead of St. Patrick's

At Sean's Bar & Kitchen in Midtown they were enjoying one last pint ahead of St. Patrick's Day. New York City Mayor De Blasio ordered all of the city's bars to shut down ahead of the historic parade citing fears about the coronavirus. The crowds were thinner than usual, including at the newly opened The Elgin, which thanked its patrons in an online post, "We are so grateful for each and every one of you, and hope you, your families, and friends remain safe and healthy during this very difficult time." Not too far away at Rosie O'Grady's Saloon, a sign in the window telling loyal customers it would see them after the coronavirus scare had passed. Perfectly set tables with white linen tableclothes and silverware catching the moment in time. A similar scene could be found at The Perfect Pint which was still decked out in shamrocks and a leprechaun proclaiming "the luck of the Irish." At nearby O'Lunney's Pub, a nice crowd had gathered with their green plastic caps for one last toast to the Irish and a plate of Shepherd's Pie. Hopefully, this will all be forgotten when St. Patrick's Day's rolls around next year. - T.R.
