Where Chinatown intersects with the Lower East Side you will find Nine Orchard, a new hotel and culinary destination in one of the most beautiful buildings in New York City.
The architectural splendor of the century-old former Jarmulowsky bank building has been meticulously restored. Originally built in 1912 for Rabbi Sender Jarmulowsky’s banking business, the 83,000-square-foot, 14-story building stood empty since 2006.

DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners, which redevelops existing properties, worked closely with an accomplished team of collaborators to meticulously preserve the building’s character throughout, from its facade to its metalwork and millwork, with the aim of honoring the structure’s intrinsic beauty and returning a significant landmark to the neighborhood.
The building’s original clock and 60-foot-tall tempietto on the rooftop have been carefully recreated from old photographs. The lobby features a soaring, vaulted ceiling and large, arched windows where bank tellers once worked, and where guests can now check-in, lounge and enjoy a drink.

The hotel features 116 guestrooms filled with details and craftsmanship, including custom fixtures, restored moldings, and large windows and brick paved terraces that showcase generous vistas of the city and the vibrant Lower East Side neighborhood.
For its food-and-beverage program, Nine Orchard has partnered with Ignacio Mattos, of Mattos Hospitality, to create multiple restaurants and event spaces, including the Swan Room and Corner Bar with Amado Grill, a 44-seat fine dining restaurant, set to open later this year.

The Swan Room is an elegant, towering space. The former bank teller room has been transformed into a high-end cocktail bar located in what is perhaps the most venerable space in the entire structure. The 52-seat lounge serves aperitifs, cocktails, wine, and sophisticated small plates.

The Corner Bar is a warm, energetic restaurant inspired by America’s legendary taverns. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on weekends. The menu offers classic bistro fare. Think Oysters Rockefeller; Spaghetti Pomodoro, Mussels with fennel, and Dijon; Long Island Crescent Duck with satsuma and pistachio; and Foie Gras Terrine with caramelized apple, Riesling and brioche. For dessert, there’s Crème Brûlée, and Profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Cocktails come with names like the King Spritz (Brooklyn aperitif, prosecco and soda; Golden Hour Sour (mezcal, suze, carrot, espelette, and lemon); and Le Logis Martini (grey goose, comoz, olive bitters, banjuls, and agrumato). There is also a lengthy wine list focused on domestic producers, beers, ciders and spirit-free cocktails.
Nine Orchard is not just a destination for travelers. It is a New York City gem that we should all cherish.
