The flavors of India have arrived in LIC at Oh! Calcutta, specializing in the foods of West Bengal. It is the latest spot from Owner Ruhel Amin, who also operates Mumbai Masala in Harlem and Masti Indian Grill and Chaat Bar in Williamsburg

Overseeing the kitchen are chefs Sharmeen Rahman and Lisha Khondokar, who blend their shared passion for homestyle cooking with their culinary expertise. Chef Sharmeen is known for her fervent love of chutneys, relishes, and curries, while Chef Lisha offers time-tested recipes passed down from generations.

The restaurant draws on the traditional cooking and spice-blending techniques of Old Calcutta, featuring Paanch Poran, a distinctive house-ground “five spice” blend widely used across Bengal and Eastern India. This aromatic mix includes cumin, brown mustard, fenugreek, nigella, and fennel. All other spices used are also roasted and house-ground, delivering a rich and layered flavor to each dish.

Menu Highlights include Singhara, Calcutta style samosa with spiced potatoes and cauliflowers; Tangara Gobi Manchurian made with tangy cauliflower, green chili, soy sauce, and scallions; Bhel Puri, savory crunchies, puffed rice, onion, and two chutneys; and Phucka, Crisp Balls of chickpea potato mash and tamarind water.

Other offerings include Butter Chicken, Oh! Calcutta’s version of Tikka Masala; Chili Chicken with Batter-fried chicken, green chili and soy sauce; Lamb Saag with spiced lamb, pureed spinach, and ginger; and Rogan Josh, Kashmiri yogurt lamb curry with saffron and cardamom. An assortment of vegetarian options if also available along with house-made naan.

Oh! Calcutta boasts a relaxed understated design, featuring vibrant red and white subway tiles complemented by serene blue-gray walls. Vintage photographs of Old Calcutta add a touch of historical charm.

Oh, Calcutta is located at 0-57 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City, New York. For more information, visit (718) 532-0017. For more information, visit ohcalcuttanyc.com
