Smør Brings Scandinavian Cuisine to Clinton Hill, Brooklyn

Smør Clinton Hill opens today at 26 Putnam Avenue, marking the newest venture from Danish restaurateurs Sebastian Perez and Sebastian Bangsgaard. While maintaining a connection to its original East Village location, this new restaurant offers a refined dining experience catering to casual diners and those seeking something more elevated. Smør Clinton Hill captures the innovative spirit of Scandinavian cuisine, seamlessly transitioning from day to night service.
Sebastian Perez and Sebastian Bangsgaard, who met while working at The Copenhagen in NYC, bring diverse experiences to this venture. Bangsgaard, influenced by his chef father and trained in gastronomy, moved to New York in 2014. Perez, a Danish native raised in multiple countries, gained hands-on restaurant experience in New York City. Together, they aim to create a welcoming neighborhood spot with a focus on quality and creativity, supported by Head Baker Rowan Gill, who brings expertise in baking and unique flavors.
The menu draws inspiration from Copenhagen’s dynamic dining scene, blending global influences with local traditions while emphasizing seasonal ingredients. Guests can expect shareable plates in a relaxed setting that reflects the Danish concept of “hygge.” While some staple dishes from the East Village remain, such as the Smoked Salmon Smørrebrød, the majority of the menu features seasonal specials. Daytime offerings include classic Copenhagen-style baked goods and breakfast items, while dinner focuses on smaller plates for sharing, featuring seafood and other refined dishes.
Smør Clinton Hill also boasts an expanded wine and beer program, showcasing natural and biodynamic selections from around the world. With a minimalist Nordic design, the restaurant features natural wood tones, concrete floors, and tasteful pops of color, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Located at 26 Putnam Avenue, Smør Clinton Hill is open Tuesday through Sunday, serving breakfast and lunch from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and dinner from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM (11:00 PM on weekends).
