Timeless India is how Sona in Flatiron describes itself. The towering space with gilded columns, and honeycombed orbs dangling from the ceiling, add to the excitement, as does the restaurateur behind it. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is considered Indian royalty by some. The author and actress writing on Instagram that she “poured her love for Indian food” into Sona, calling it the embodiment of the flavors she grew up with. Among those flavors, Kafka Korma, ricotta dumplings in cashew sauce, and Chili Cheese Naan. The kitchen is helmed by chef Hari Nanak who has worked at such restaurants as Tandur, Bombay Bungalow and Moombai and Co. Nanak says Sona, “pays homage to the Indian subcontinent’s rich cultural heritage.” Sona is also offering a private dining space called Mimi’s for up to 30 guests as well as Indian artwork that is also available for purchase.
Sona is located at 36 East 20th St, New York, NY
