Tara Kitchen Brings the Flavors of Morocco to Tribeca

Chef Aneesa Waheed is known for her skillful cooking of Moroccan cuisine. At Tara Kitchen, which recently opened in Tribeca, those skills are being put to work in flavorful tagines and other Middle Eastern delights.
The tagines, which are essentially stews, combine chicken, lamb and vegetables with fragrant spices like cumin and coriander with the sweetness of dried figs, apricots and prunes They include the Chicken Tagine with pomegranate, honey, harissa kalamata olives, and toasted almonds; Lamb Meatballs in rich tomato sauce and poached egg; and braised lamb shank with a honey-harissa glaze over mashed potatoes. Vegetarian offerings include a medley of seven vegetables over saffron infused couscous finished with a dash of truffle oil.
Tara Kitchern is also known for its cigars of ground lamb wrapped in phyllo dough; warm fig salad with toasted almonds, and the Essaouira Plate, a mix of fish, shrimp and scallops grilled with a spicy tomato jam.
