Tasca is a new destination for Spanish and Latin-Caribbean cuisine on the Upper West Side. Restaurateurs Jay and Norisa Espinal have created a multi-level spot inspired by the cuisines of their childhoods.

The menu celebrates the foods of the Iberian Peninsula, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. Look dishes such as grilled churrasco with yucca fries and Caribbean Mojo; plantain croquetas; and paella and fideau for two. It’s also reflected in the beverages being offered, including an extensive Spanish wine list curated by owner Jay Espinal, cocktails by Gates Otsuji protégé Colin Stevens and a vast collection of premium rums, including rare and vintage bottles, from across the globe. Brunch, takeout and delivery will follow in the coming weeks.

Tasca gets its name from the Spanish word for “tavern,” with both outdoor and indoor seating, including a spacious main dining room, bar and lower-level lounge and a 1,400-bottle wine room with fireplace. Inspired by the coasts of Spain and the Caribbean, the interior design is accented by brass and black iron wall sculptures and custom wallpaper featuring Caribbean and Spanish floral designs with the coqui, a frog native to Puerto Rico, hidden among them. White-washed brick, weathered wood and tropical foliage adding to coastal Caribbean vibe.
