The Vessel at Hudson Yards Reopens with New Safety Measures
October 20, 2024, 10:14.32 pm ET
The Vessel at Hudson Yards is reopening after being closed due to a series of tragic suicides. To address safety concerns, a significant redesign was undertaken. Thomas Heatherwick and his studio spent over two years developing protective measures, according to the New York Post. The new design includes floor-to-ceiling steel mesh screens on every level above the second, except for the top floor, which remains closed.
Despite these upgrades, the Vessel maintains its architectural integrity. Standing 150 feet tall with 154 staircases and 2,500 steps, it offers stunning views of the city. The iconic structure, a centerpiece of Hudson Yards' five-acre Public Square and Gardens, reopens with safety as a top priority while preserving its status as a must-see attraction.
