Veterans of Michelin-starred Joël Robuchon and Per Se have opened l’abeille, a sophisticated new Tribeca restaurant specializing in French 'bistronomy,' a cross between haute cuisine and NYC bistro style. The name l’abeille marries Executive Chef Mitsunobu Nagae’s heritage with his deeply rooted French background.
Foie Gras Torchon, Caramelized Mango, Spicy Chutney
The restaurant features a six-course rotating seasonal prix-fixe menu accompanied by a selection of à la carte dishes. Chef Nagae’s menu draws inspiration from years of cooking alongside some of the world’s most celebrated chefs in Paris, Tokyo, and New York City.
Grilled Beef, Coffee, Asparagus, jus
Menu highlights include, Homard, vinaigrette vanille, muscade, romarin [Lobster, vanilla dressing, nutmeg, rosemary]; St-Jacques carpaccio, betterave, gazpacho [Scallop crudo, beets, gazpacho]; and Pigeon rôti et laqué au miso, sauce au Bourbon [Roasted squab, glazed with miso, bourbon sauce]. Dessert selections offer fresh fruit-forwards finishers like Fraise, lychee, rose, shiso [strawberry, lychee, rose, basil] and Orange, glace au miel, meringue [orange, honey ice cream, and meringue].
Beverage director and certified sommelier, John Mckenna (Alto + Ai Fiori, Atera + L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon) is curating the French-focused wine list + cocktail menu with classic Champagne, Bordeaux, and Rhone from sought-after producers, along with under-the-radar treasures. The wine list and pairings will constantly evolve with the seasonality of l’abeille’s menus.
Spirited cocktails and aperitifs include A Sleepin’ Bee made with chamomile infused Barr Hill Gin, alfalfa honeyed vanilla beans, pear, and lime or Sterling Mason comprised of banana-infused Ron Zacapa 23, espresso muscovado syrup, and coconut water. Flavor-forward mocktails are also served, including the Sauvignon Jardin, sencha infused Bax Lemon Verbena, garden heat vinegar, tomato water, yuzu marmalade, and elderflower tonic.
The contemporary space by renowned designer Marta Carvalho provides a chic, elevated ambiance seamlessly connecting elements of Tribeca’s industrial streets to this warm, welcoming space. Curated tiles, textured wallpaper, custom-designed furniture and antique brass light fixtures fill the space, while guests enjoying bar seating have a view into a semi-open kitchen. During the warmer weather months, l’abeille’s floor-to-ceiling windows will open to the sidewalk, where intimate outdoor dining tables— seating up to 12 people – will emulate the al fresco atmosphere of a Paris bistro.
l’abeille will open for dinner service five days per week, Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30pm to 11pm and Friday through Saturday from 5:30pm to midnight. Reservations are recommended and can be made via Resy.
l'abeille is located at 412 Greenwich Street, New York, NY (212) 542-3898. Reservations are recommended and can be made via Resy.
