New Yorkers for Parks is out with its 2015 NYC Beach Report Card.  Here's what the group found:



Rockaway Beach
Score: 90 (Excellent)

Boardwalk that exists is in excellent condition, shoreline nearly impeccable, scoring a new high of 96. Some issues remain with comfort stations.


Manhattan Beach
Score: 87  (Very Good)

Cleaner beaches with pathways that are well maintained.  Problems with drinking fountains remain an issue


Cedar Grove Beach
Score: 83  (Very Good)

Excellent bathrooms and drinking fountains, but shoreline performed poorly, including broken glass, litter and unprotected dunes.


South Beach
Score: 80 (Very Good) 

Most of the boardwak now clear of hazards after hurricane Sandy.  Good fountains and pathways.  Litter and broken glass on the beach remain an issue.


Coney Island
Score: 76 (Satisfactory)

Improved facilities including bathrooms, but fewer drinking fountains.  Trip hazzards found on a third of the boardwalk.  On the plus side, trash was fairly well contained.
 

Midland Beach
Score: 76 (Satisfactory)

Scores high marks for pathways and promenade.  Shoreline is well maintained.  Dirty bathrooms, damaged toilets and urinals among its challenges.


Orchard Beach
Score: 69 (Challenged)

Broken glass on beaches remains a hazard, along with damaged bathrooms and graffiti.


Wolf's Pond Beach
Score: 32 (Unsatisfactory)

Had the lowest score in this year's survey.  Shoreline poorly maintained and lacks adequate safety signage.  Areas strewn with excessive litter and large pieces of natural debris. Beach in dire need of sand replenishment.
