As you walk into Alexander Wang on Grand Street in SoHo, it feels as though you’re smack dab in the middle of a photo shoot. The large, brightly lit studio is modern and chic, accented by large black tapestries that drape from the ceiling and a furry black hammock that swings about in the middle of the store, inviting you to lounge if you grow tired with additional couches centered in the room.
The quantity is slight but the quality is high. Alexander Wang Women’s Ready To Wear fashions are hung about in the first half of the store. Bright neons and bold leather options are of the top selections, with edgy casual wear coming in a close second. The interesting Bi Color Ribbed Dress in Neon Orange and Yellow will cost you $375 whereas $500 will score you the Compact Mesh White Top. The more expensive items are dazzled with leather features, such as the Fitted Racerback Dress with Breastplate for $985.
A glass bookshelf in the back hosts spiked leather flats and funky accessories with zippers galore for men and women. Alexander Wang’s signature leather bags come in a variety of sizes. Wang’s mint green leather bags are this season’s hottest trend and are displayed in three different styles, one of the most popular being the Acqua Brenda Chain Bag with Nickelhardware ($725).
A small selection of T by Alexander Wang, his cost efficient line of casual wear, can be found on a rack near the cash registers. These well made, funky, yet simple, tee shirts, tanks and silk blouses will run you around $200 a piece.
