Description:
Aaaaah. The days are getting a bit longer, and there's a chance that it won't be pitch black when you head home from work. Meanwhile, once in a while there's something other than an intense
chill in the air. Something that, dare we hope, feels kind of like spring.

The small and charming Amon Ra, which bills itself as "the best-kept secret of the East Village, is filled with adorable knitwear (scarves, hats, and the like) for colder temps, but it also has
transitional items that will ease you out of deep freeze. For the cold, its thick, toasty, and brightly colored knits will be both warming and cheering. But I was focussed more on signs of thaw, likehand-knit fingerless gloves ($45) in a pink, purple, yellow, and orange mix; or $35 in lilac. A "popcorn knit" short-sleeve sweater ($85) in a festive blue, pink, and yellow pattern will work with a
turtleneck underneath now and a camisole underneath at the Easter Parade. An off-white, light wool shawl with festive pink, blue, and green dots ($50) is *just* the way to slip from heat to air-
conditioning, and a pale pink scarf with pompoms, also in a light wool ($35), will bring spring to both your step and your outfit.

Wraparound skirts in a silky red or blue with black polka dots are on sale for $20: Wear them now with tights and later without; they'll take you through summer and into the fall. And wool
blankets ($70) in green and cream plaid patterns will work on the bed right now and draped over the couch in warmer months; they'll be lovely no matter where you put them. Last but certainly not least: A long, off-white skirt in gauze, muslin, and lace ($175) and dotted with gold-colored charms would work perfectly as the bottom half of a bohemian bridal ensemble.

This place really is a well-kept secret, but it's exactly the kind of spot you hope to stumble upon while shopping: Unique and creative, fun and fairly priced. Most pieces are hand-made, and all of them have great style and a good bit of fun. Enjoy.   - Pamela Grossman
